Grant Opportunities

Tri 4 Schools offers two types of grants for large-scale school-based initiatives each year. We also offer scholarships to athletes in our community who have financial need.

Endowment Fund Grant

In 2015, we awarded the first recipient of our Tri 4 Schools Endowment Fund Grant.  The Tri 4 Schools Endowment Fund was started in 2014 to help fund additional projects and initiatives in schools that align with our mission and raise awareness of our organization.

Our 2015 Grant winner was the Verona Area Physical Education Department – all the Elementary schools combined to request a grant to fund outdated gymnastics equipment that will benefit the 2,400 students who use it each year.  Combined with their 2015 funds earned from Tri 4 Schools events, they received $4,500 to update ALL their needed equipment!

Congrats to our 2016 Endowment Grant Recipient: Sandburg Elementary School! They will furnish a classroom at their school on Madison’s north side with kinesthetic learning equipment, such as wobble seats, kneeling pads, and convert several desks into standing desks to keep students active all day long.  Research shows that this helps improve focus, and reduce stress and behavioral incidents.

About the Endowment Fund

Gifts to the endowment fund are permanent gifts that make a lasting impact on the future of Tri 4 Schools and our community.  The funds are invested in a portfolio with an annual disbursement of approximately 5%.  As the fund grows, the grants grow.  To learn more or to make a gift to support the endowment fund, please visit our Donate page.

School Funds Grant

Our school funds grant is new in 2016, and replaces our Adopted School program.  The funds for this grant are made possible through our race entry fee revenue. One quarter of our annual race entry fees are distributed to up to three schools to fund large-scale initiatives that would not otherwise be possible.

Congratulations to our 2016 grant recipients!

    • Westside Elementary: Westside will be implementing mindfulness curriculum and equipment into all of their classrooms, helping their students (many of whom come from high-stress environments and situations) focus, reduce stress, and self regulate for optimal classroom learning.
    • Waunakee Elementary Schools: Waunakee is purchasing a railyard fitness system (see images to the left) for all three of their elementary schools, which is inclusive of students of all abilities and fitness levels.
    • Glacier Creek Middle School: GCMS will also be implementing active classroom tools, like stability balls, pedals for seated desks, and balance boards and discs.
    • Marshall Elementary: Marshall is purchasing a new, high tech pedometer system to help kids track their movement and steps all day long, and see their results immediately. We all can identify with the motivation that comes from achieving your health goals, and this will introduce kids to the concept of daily movement.
    • MMSD: We will be helping all of Madison’s elementary schools with their rollerblading unit, an annual favorite unit in phy-ed class, by purchasing new elbow and knee pads.  We hope this will help keep kids safe while moving!
    • Schenk Elementary: Schenk is in the process of updating and renovating their playground and recess spaces, and we are funding two new rolling carts, stocked with all the coolest recess equipment kids would want!
