Community Bed Donation Program
Across the street from UnityPoint Health-Madison sits the Triangle neighborhood, a public apartment complex which houses medically fragile, formerly homeless, or low-income adults.
After noticing an increase in Emergency Room visits from Triangle neighborhood residents for issues like sore backs, shoulders, hips and knees, Meriter Community Relations Manager Lisa Bell decided to get to the bottom of the problem. Bell reached out to Laura Wichert, the CDA Service Coordinator at Triangle, to find a solution and assist the residents of Triangle. The team discovered that many of the residents were sleeping on dated beds, air mattresses, and in some cases, the floor itself.
Bell and Wichert knew that the key to good health would be delivering new beds to these residents in need. With a partnership and generous pricing from Steinhafels in Madison, the team purchased new beds for residents in need.
Thanks to the staff at UnityPoint Health-Meriter and Steinhafels, beds will be delivered to residents in need every month. Meriter has also committed to buying new pillows and sheet sets. The hope is that with a better night’s rest, residents at Triangle will see improved health and happiness.
